Robert H. Hewsen (Ph.D., Georgetown Univ.) (May 20, 1934 – November 17, 2018) , was Professor Emeritus of History, Glassboro State College (Glassboro, N.J., now Rowan University), and was a Senior Editor of Kronos. Together with Warner B. Sizemore, and Prof. Lewis M. Greenberg, they established the Center for Velikovskian and Interdisciplinary Studies in March 1975, affiliated to the Department of History at Glassboro.
Background
Born in New York City, Robert H. Hewsen received his doctorate from Georgetown University where he studied Armenian and Caucasian history under the late pioneer Armenist Cyril Toumanoff. From 1967 to 1999, he taught Russian and Byzantine History at Rowan University, Glassboro, New Jersey, where he is now Professor Emeritus. In addition, he has taught Armenian history at the Universities of Michigan (1979), Pennsylvania (1980-1983), Tübingen, Germany (1984, 1987), Chicago (1991, 1998, 2008), Columbia (1993, 1999), St. Nersess Seminary (2001), California State University, Fresno (2001), UCLA (2002), and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (2004). He has lectured at Harvard, Princeton, Berkeley, Dumbarton Oaks, the Pierpont Morgan Library (NYC), and at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. He participates regularly in the annual Middle East Studies Association conferences. Besides numerous articles and book reviews , Dr. Hewsen has published an English translation of the 7th-century Armenian Geography (Ashkharatsouyts), (1992) and supervised the reprinting of the original Armenian texts of both versions of the same work (1994). He has also contributed eight large-scale maps of Caucasia to the Tübingen Atlas of the Middle East, and in 2001 published a 341-page, 278-map Historical Atlas of Armenia (Univ. of Chicago, 2001). Professor Hewsen has visited Armenia nine times since 1961 and Nagorno Karabagh twice.
