Catastrophism and Ancient History was a biannual journal that ran between 1978 – 1993 totalling 30 issues and three seminar Proceedings (1983-1996), and edited by Marvin Arnold Luckerman. The opening editorial states:
“We, the staff of Catastrophism and Ancient History, welcome you. Our new magazine will be different from most academic publications. While other journals more often specialize in one field such as astronomy, geology, history, or archaeology, we will endeavor to create an interdisciplinary magazine. In order to solve a problem in one discipline (field), it is our belief that one must involve other fields. In the last decade it has been shown again and again that all fields of study are inextricably linked; in order to escape myopic tunnel vision, specialists in all areas must work together. That is why, in this magazine, we will present the work of scholars in many fields; by this approach we hope to foster a more unified understanding of the history of our world.
“Another way in which we differ from other journals is that we will be discussing areas of ancient history which unfortunately most “establishment” magazines refuse to enter. This is why our articles must be presented with better documentation and research than is required for establishment articles. Catastrophism and Ancient History owes its inception to the theories of Dr. Immanuel Velikovsky, and one of the precepts he has taught us is to “question everyone, everything, including Velikovsky and including yourself.”
“It is our belief that one of the more important sections of Catastrophism and Ancient History is “Interaction”. Here we encourage our readers who disagree or want to elaborate upon the articles to take the opportunity to do so. In this first issue, I have taken the opportunity to answer an article by Dr. Bimson from a kindred interdisciplinary magazine in Great Britain.
“It is our sincere desire to present a magazine dedicated to the open discussion and advancement of the study of ancient history.”[1]Marvin Arnold Luckerman, Catastrophism and Ancient History I:1 (1978)
